Inspiration for Project 1

I have always been interested in and intrigued by the idea of dreams. Always having very vivid dreams myself, I have always wanted to try to re-create my dreams through art. Therefore, I greatly admire those artists who are able to accomplish this task by creating dream-like paintings, drawings, or other forms of art. Surrealists, for example, studied the Freudian Psychology and theories of dreams, and attempted to create "hand-painted" dreams. Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte both attempted to create 'magic realism', in which they incorporated realistic images into a dream-like setting. They also juxtaposed two or more completely random images that had nothing to do with one another by putting them in a composition together, thus creating a relationship between the images. For this project, I would like to play off of this idea; juxtapose random images to create a dream-like composition, the goal being to re-create a dream that I may have had in the past.

The image above and the image below are by Magritte:

The images below are both by Salvador Dali:

The last couple of images are two dream photomontages that I randomly came across. The artists are unknown, but I greatly appreciate the dream-like qualities of both of these works:

Entry One: About Me

Greetings! My name is Carime "Cari" Yoder. I am currently a junior at Indiana University, Bloomington, and majoring in Art Education.

I decided to pursue a career in art education because I have a great passion for art and art history, as well as a passion for young people. It is my great desire to inspire and motivate children to create and to learn about art, as well as to play a part in shaping their future.
In the field of art I am greatly inspired and I admire works by my favorite artists Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Salvador Dali, and Diane Arbus. I am also captivated by the country of Italy; one of the greatest art capitols of the world. I have had the opportunity of travelling to Italy, and am hoping to return there to study for a summer semester. When creating art, my favorite medium to work with is drawing, painting, and I am also interested in photography.

Aside from visual art, I am greately interested in theater and performing arts. While I am not a performing artist myself, attending theatrical events is one of my greatest hobbies.

I am greatly passionate about music, and enjoy a wide variety of genres including musicals and soundtracks, country, classic rock, soft rock, classical, and music from around the world.

The most important things in my life are my family and friends, and I greatly enjoy spending time with them in my spare time. I am highly interested in and enjoy athletics, particularly cometitive swimming, as I was a competitive swimmer for 10 years of my life. Also in my spare time I enjoy reading, watching movies, shopping, and exercising.
