This abstract painting is by Kandinsky, and it is called Fugue, and was painted in 1914. I was drawn to this painting, first of all, because of its vivid colors. I generally love rich blues, and this painting has a lot of that rich blue color in it, therefore my eye was drawn to it. He uses a lot of various lines and shapes, and I greatly appreciate the richness of the textures. The organic lines and bright colors, I think, gives this painting a happy and exciting tone. This painting reminds me of a fantasy landscape. The combination of dark and light colors gives it a sort of whimsical feel. What also caught my eye was the object in the middle with the white slashes. Although this painting is abstract, that object to me looks like a ship, and it is sailing in a colorful sea. I also consider the title of the painting, which is Fugue. A fugue is a type of song that is sung in a round, and it gradually builds upon itself. For example, the song 'Row Row Your Boat' is a fugue. So therefore, considering that I see a ship or a boat in the middle of this painting, I immediately thought of that song, and also related it to the title of the painting.
